JACKSONVILLE, Fla.<\/b>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0Reconstruction of the first phase of the Simpson Creek Bridge on Heckscher Drive (State Road A1A) is scheduled for completion the week of August 1. When completed, traffic will be shifted to the new structure while reconstruction of the last phase of the bridge begins.<\/p>\n

Temporary traffic signals with video detection are being utilized on both ends of the bridge to maintain traffic, including bicycles, in a two-way, one-lane configuration while bridge reconstruction occurs.<\/p>\n

The replacement of the Simpson Creek Bridge is part of the Timucuan Trail project currently under construction on the east side of Heckscher Drive. Once completed, the new bridge will provide two 12-foot travel lanes, two 10-foot shoulders and the 10-foot wide Timucuan Trail. The reconstruction of the Myrtle Creek Bridge, south of Simpson Creek, was completed in November 2021.<\/p>\n

The Timucuan Trail is a shared use bike and walking path that will connect to the existing trail at the Little Talbot Island State Park entrance and extend to the Big Talbot Island State Park Big Pine Trailhead north of Houston Avenue.<\/p>\n
