Setting the Standard in Intelligent Transportation Solutions

The North Florida Regional Transportation Management Center (RTMC) is a state-of-the-art facility that opened in 2015 to manage traffic in the Florida Department of Transportation’s (FDOT) District Two.

The RTMC houses multiple partner agencies that all work together to operate and manage the multimodal transportation network for Northeast Florida.

The RTMC is the hub for FDOT’s Transportation Systems Management and Operations (TSM&O) Program in District Two. The RTMC operates 24 hours per day, 7 days per week to provide Traffic Management, Incident Management, and Traveler Information Services.

2005

The FDOT began RTMC Operations in 2005 with two locations, one at the District 2 Urban Office and one at the Florida Highway Patrol Jacksonville Dispatch Center.

2012

In 2012, FDOT, in partnership with the North Florida TPO and FHP, began the process to build the current, state-of-the-art multi-agency RTMC.

2015

This RTMC was the beginning of an ongoing investment in Intelligent Transportation Systems and opened in 2015 as the hub for the TSM&O Program for District Two.

Today

The District Two RTMC monitors and manages traffic in the Northeast Florida region including the following 18 counties: Alachua, Baker, Bradford, Clay, Columbia, Dixie, Duval, Gilchrist, Hamilton, Lafayette, Levy, Madison, Nassau, Putnam, St. Johns, Suwannee, Taylor, and Union.

FDOT District 2 operates at one of the largest scales in Florida, covering 18 counties, 11,904 square miles, and 2,573 centerline roadway miles (21% of the state total).

The district also oversees 1,206 fixed bridges and 144 airports, underscoring the scale and complexity of the network it manages.
