Keeping drivers informed and updated

Traveler Information is an essential service provided by District Two as this keeps drivers informed and alert with real-traffic updates.

This tool assists the motoring public with making informed trip-planning decisions and promotes safer trips.  Under this service we work with:

  • FL511
  • Dynamic Message Signs (DMS)
  • Travel Time Info and social media.

FL511 — Florida's official real-time traffic information system

FL511

  • The Florida 511 (FL511) Advanced Traveler Information System (ATIS) is the state’s official source for real-time traffic information.
  • FL511 provides users with up-to-the-minute information on traffic conditions such as travel times, congestion, crashes, construction,  closures, detour routes, and more.
  • The FL511 mobile application provides users with directions to their chosen destination along with travel times, alternate routes, and any traffic alerts they need to be aware of.

Dynamic Message Signs

Dynamic Message Signs (DMS) are overhead electronic signs located on highway and arterial  roadways that provide motorists with real-time traffic updates.

  • DMS are a valuable tool used to provide Traveler Information, as they display traffic alerts 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.
  • Traffic operators at the RTMC update the DMS with traffic alerts, weather warnings, travel time information, safety campaigns, lane blockages, road closures, and more.

Social Media

Social media is an additional tool used by FDOT to provide Traveler Information.

  • Using several different social media platforms, the department posts about planned and real-time traffic events.
  • These updates help travelers make well-informed decisions about their trip which increases safety and reduces traffic congestion.
