JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – As part of a bridge rehabilitation project on the Main Street Bridge (State Road 5), a closure is planned from Monday, Aug. 11 through Saturday, Aug. 16, weather and unforeseen circumstances permitting.
Drivers should follow posted detour signage. The closure will be for vehicles, bicycles and pedestrians. Vessels will not be impacted by the closure.
The closure is necessary for the safety of crews as they conduct a laser imaging, detection, and ranging (LiDAR) survey scan and mechanical evaluation of the Main Street Bridge ahead of a trunnion replacement. This work will provide critical information to support design and construction of this project, as well as planning for future maintenance projects.
The trunnion bearings serve as pivot points at the top of the bridge and allow the bridge to be raised and lowered. The trunnion replacement project is expected to take place in early 2028. During the trunnion replacement, the Main Street Bridge will be closed to pedestrians and motorists.
