JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Southbound ramp to I-95 from the Acosta Bridge will temporarily be closed, continuously beginning Friday, April 1 at 8 p.m. until crews complete bridge repair work on the I-95 collector/distributor ramp. The temporary closure is necessary for crews to safely remove damaged bridge components and replace beams and portions of the bridge deck.
In addition, Hendricks Avenue under I-95 will close temporarily Friday, April 1 at 8 p.m. as crews begin demolition and reconstruction of portions of the southbound I-95 overpass. The temporary closure of Hendricks Avenue is expected to be in place until 5 a.m. April 10, weather and unforeseen circumstances permitting.
During the closure, motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians will be briefly detoured to Kings Avenue and continue to their destination. Signage will alert the public and direct travelers through the detour.
FDOT determined repairs are necessary after inspecting damage sustained when an over-height vehicle struck the bridge earlier this month. Repairs will consist of removing and replacing two support beams, making minor repairs to three additional support beams and replacing a portion of the bridge deck.
Traffic will be maintained in accordance with FDOT standards. Drivers on the I-95 south collector/distributor will encounter continuous, multiple-lane closures throughout the duration of the repairs.
March is bicycle safety month. When cycling always wear a helmet and ride in the same direction of traffic on the street. Obey all traffic signs, signals, and markings.
